Barricade was founded in 1994 by firefighter, John Bartlett, after he observed that a disposable baby diaper did not burn during a routine trash fire.

Fire Gel Applications

Products

Barricade Fire Blocking Gel is designed to help protect structures from wildland fires. Creating a barrier between oncoming fires and your property. When applied correctly, Barricade Fire Gel can protect trees, brush, propane tanks, vehicles and most importantly your structure. Barricade Gel is made from absorbent polymers that are similar to those used in diapers. These polymers create essentially a shield of tiny water droplets that are stacked on top of each other creating a thermal protective layer that becomes a polymer shell. Applying Barricade Gel is easy, if you have fertilized your lawn with a garden hose you will have no problem spraying your home with Barricade Fire gel. One case of Barricade Gel ( 4 one gallon bottles ) will cover approximately 2000 square feet.

We recommend buying enough gel to protect your structure as well enough gel to spray your brush and vehicles around your home. Remember to always clear away excess brush on your property to create an area of defensible space. Barricade Gel once sprayed on your property, it will last 6-8 hours to a maximum of 24-36 hours. The thicker you apply the gel the longer it will last and can be rejuvenated at any time with a light misting of water. In the event of an approaching fire please listen to your fire department recommendations and evacuation procedures. When using Barricade Fire Gel please make sure you have enough time to apply the gel correctly and the event a fast approaching fire please do not be a hero, it is best to evacuate. Barricade Fire Gel should be sprayed on visible surfaces and should be applied to roofs, windows, eaves, doors, decks, and fences that are joined to any structure.

Many home fires in wildland fires are caused by the radiant heat that passes through the windows and ignites the interior items. Sprayed correctly, Barricade will leave a layer of white protective gel on any surface that is sprayed on, a 1/4" thick layer is required for the best protection against a wildland fires. The U.S. Forest Service has announced that Barricade II Fire Blocking Gel has been tested and approved for use in firefighting efforts with large air tankers, smaller Single Engine Air Tankers, helicopters using buckets as well as firefighters on the ground. Barricade II is the first and only liquid fire gel concentrate that has been approved for use by the Forest Service that does not contain toxic chemical additives.
